Communities Foundation of Oklahoma Nursing Scholarship ABSN Program

The Communities Foundation of Oklahoma Nursing Scholarship Fund was established for the purpose of providing financial aid for students at the University of Oklahoma College of Nursing who are entering the Accelerated Bachelor of Science Nursing Program and are dedicated to working in an Oklahoma hospital.

This program is for individuals who have bachelors or higher degrees in a non-nursing major. The nursing curriculum consists of 60 credit hours of courses incorporating theoretical and clinical content. It is designed to be completed in 14 months of concentrated study. Graduates from this program receive a BSN degree and are eligible to sit for the state examination for licensure as a registered nurse. The program begins on June 1 of the first year and is completed on July 31 of the second year.

The scholarship award is for $8,000.

Selection Criteria

Students selected for this scholarship must meet the following criteria:

Be enrolled as a full-time student
Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA
Complete the program within the required timeframe
Agree to work as an RN in an Oklahoma hospital upon completion of the program for a minimum of one year
Agree to respond to requests for information about employment for five years.

Application deadline is February 18, 2009. In addition to this form, personal interviews are required.

Notification of Scholarship Awards

The College of Nursing will notify scholarship recipients in writing.
The College of Nursing will provide a list of scholarship recipients, and the period of award to the Bursar and to the Office of Financial Aid each semester.
The scholarship for tuition and fees will be paid directly to each recipient's Bursar account each semester for which they are enrolled and eligible to receive the scholarship.
